World Vision - Sponsor A Child, Making A Greater Impact

The first thing i did when coming back to my home after months studying at KL was checking the letter box whether there was any letter sent for me. Sadly, there was none :'(

Start missing those days where we sent some greeting cards or letters to our friends by snail mail, where we picked those cards carefully by ourselves and wrote those messages with a sincere heart and corrected it again and again for the best sentences. Unfortunately, those real and touchable greeting cards are gradually replaced  by the technology, where people simply type in messages and press the button 'send' or even worse just 'forward' message wrote by others.

But to my surprise the second day my dad passed me a letter. A letter by the World Vision Malaysia. FYI, i made some donations to the World Vision since i was in secondary school, so every year i will receive a letter for donation and child sponsorship.

World Vision, building a better world for children.

Feel the warmness of this festive season with this cute design at the back of the envelope!

In case you don't know, World Vision is an international Christian relief, development and advocacy organization dedicated to working with children, families and their communities worldwide to reach their full potential by tackling the causes of poverty. They serve all people regardless of religion, race, ethnicity or gender. World Vision helps the poor to help themselves by working with them to build sustainable futures for their children, families and communities.

I was always wanted to sponsor a child. But as a student, sponsoring a child is quite a burden for me (RM 780 per year for Asian countries and RM 960 per year for non-Asian countries), normally i will made some donations with my siblings, but together with 45+ course-mates we once sponsored a child during secondary school. Hopefully with this post, YOU can make a greater impact to the world by sponsoring a child or making some donations, especially during this festive season of Chinese New Year (with some money from your Angpau :D)!

This festival is a time of family reunions and the sharing of good things with one another. In the same spirit of sharing during this Chinese New Year, you too can bring joy and hope to families in need, by sponsoring a child or sharing about the Child Sponsorship Programme with your friends and families.

HOW YOU CAN HELP?

Option 1: Sponsor a child

Help left a child and an entire community out of poverty! Child sponsorship provides access to life-saving basics like clean water, nutritious food, healthcare, education and more.

Asian Countries: RM 65 per month / RM 195 per quarter / RM 390 per half year / RM 780 per year.

Non-Asian Countries: RM 80 per month / RM 240 per quarter / RM 480 per half year / RM 960 per year.

Option 2: Contribute to a World Vision Fund

For a minimum of RM 30 per month, you can provide a child with access to basic education and educational facilities through the Education Fund or help a child impacted by HIV/AIDS by contributing to the HOPE Fund.

Education Fund - Your gift will provide equal basic education opportunities to children, regardless of gender and physical challenges; equipping them socially, economically and emotionally to face challenges ahead.

HOPE Fund - Your contribution to the HOPE Fund will enable World Vision to heighten awareness and check the spread of HIV/AIDS within the communities, implement programmes that improve the quality of life of those affected and impacted by the disease.

Option 3: Give a one-off donation

Your donation will be channeled to areas where the needs are greatest and most urgent. Any amount will definitely make a difference!

Start making a greater impact this Chinese New Year!

"I am very happy to do my best and serve my community as a World Vision volunteer now.

As a child, i received love and care from World Vision.

Today is my turn to do the same for children in my community.

I want to share my experiences with them and encourage the children

who live in poverty to stand strong and try their best in life."

  1. Hey, this came across my mind few years back as well. But just like what you mentioned, it might be a burden for us as the students with no income plus high living cost. :( However, it would be great if we could find a bunch of friends with the same passionate to sponsor a child together (= Are you sponsoring one at this moment? =p

    1. Jying, glad that you're interested in this too! Well, me and my friends (around 45 people) did sponsored a child last time. If all our coursemates are interested to sponsor a child, each person need to pay around RM 30++, i'm not sure all of them agree to pay this amount since it is not a small amount to some people. Maybe we can collect money from those who are interested to make a donation too ^.^ Wish you have a happy new year! Cheers :D

    1. Dear Sherlyn Lim,

Thanks for your compliment :) You can always make a donation or sponsor a child through World Vision! And guess what? The child you sponsored will write you letters to thank you and tell you their stories! It feels so amazing to receive a snail mail from other countries and read their own hand-written stories :)

      Regards,
      Sharon.
